The design of this striking quilt is based on a traditional Amish method of placing bright colors against a black background to make the foreground colors really stand out and “pop.” Elizabeth Bear deviated somewhat from this traditional Amish technique by turning some of the blocks to create a more painterly affect. After Elizabeth hand-cut and assembled all the strips and blocks, the
Ladies’ Auxiliary Group at the Los Osos Methodist Church devoted more then 200 hours hand quilting on a community quilt frame. Their expert handiwork is evident in the intricate swirls and in the smallness of the stitches. High quality Pima cotton is used throughout including the backing. The interior batting is also 100% cotton.
The quilt measures 86" x 98"
