Sacred Sounds Concert
Saturday, May 4, 2013, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

When we see the beauty of our own being we are seeing the beauty of the Being that is the One of which we are all a part. And when we turn towards that One, love is the natural reaction of the heart.

Join with the AWAKENING Interfaith Spiritual Community in a joyous evening of music, chanting and soulful bliss featuring Gwyn Allie, Johnny Cannan and the AWAKENING Kirtan Band.

Paramahansa Yogananda brought India's art of devotional chanting called Kirtan, to the West, introducing thousands to the experience of chanting together in devotion to God at New York City's famed Carnegie Hall in April of 1926. Kirtan is call-and-reponse chanting performed in India's devotional traditions. Kirtan practice involves chanting hymns or mantras to the accompaniment of instruments such as the harmonium, drums, and other percussion instruments. Mantras are words, phrases, and syllables that are repeated until they become integrated into the chanter’s consciousness.

Krishna Das says the practice requires no allegiance to any deity or set of beliefs.
