Join us to explore Ayurvedic Psychology with Jean Wetzel, PhD, CAS.  We will meet for 4 Thursday evenings 6:30 - 8:00pm at Awakening Interfaith Spiritual Community.

A traditional Indian health science, Ayurveda is one of the world’s most ancient holistic practices.¬†¬† Ayurveda has always acknowledged that human health and balance are created in an intimate dance between the physical body, the mind and the spirit.¬†¬† As such,¬† Ayurveda is also becoming a leader in today’s increased focus on mind/body health and medicine.

This class will focus on the definition and the function of the mind Рalso known as the subtle body  - from the perspective of Ayurveda.   An elementary knowledge of basic Ayurvedic principles will be assumed, but is not essential.   The class will be interactive, with suggested readings from the book, Ayurveda and the Mind by Dr. David Frawley (which can be purchased at amazon.com before the first class)

   Topics will include the following:

  • What constitutes the “mind,” from an Ayurvedic perspective?
  • The three doshas, and their role in creating personality
  • The three gunas, ¬†or states of mind, and their role in mental health
  • Examples of mind imbalances (anxiety, depression, Alzheimer’s), how they arise and possible treatment
  • Examples of Ayurvedic therapies used to create balance in the mind

Fee:  Free Will Donation (suggested: $15/class)
